The School

A calm, green campus at the heart of Shoranur

Sree Narayana Trusts Central School was inaugurated on 31 May 2000 by Sri. Vellappally Natesan, Secretary of the Sree Narayana Trusts. The school stands on about eight acres of naturally beautiful land in Shoranur Municipality — a peaceful setting for serious learning.

The school is established, owned and administered by Sree Narayana Trusts, Kollam, founded in 1952 by Late Shri. R. Sankar (1909–1972) in the name of the saint and social reformer Sree Narayana Guru, to realise his message of “Freedom through Education”. With this school, the founder's dream of an educational complex spanning primary to doctorate level has been realised.

Day-to-day academic affairs are guided by the Regional Development Council, the Trusts' organising committee, together with an active School Management Committee.

Education here aims at helping pupils develop their all-round personality. They should imbibe the basic values of life — love, compassion, courage, honesty, humanism, and a sense of justice and equality. The aptitudes and abilities of each pupil are identified and promoted so that they attain excellence in their own areas, with co-curricular activities open to all according to their skills and talents.

Academics

CBSE curriculum, from Kindergarten to Class XII

An English medium school following the syllabus of the Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi, preparing students for the All India Secondary School Examination (AISSE) and the All India Senior School Certificate Examination (AISSCE).

Up to Class X

English, Malayalam and Hindi, along with Mathematics, General Science / Environmental Studies, Social Science, Computer and General Knowledge.

Science stream

Senior Secondary science with Mathematics, Biology and Computer Science as optional subjects.

Commerce stream

Senior Secondary commerce with Economics and Informatics Practices.

Examinations

Two terms a year (June–September, October–March). Each term carries 100 marks: 20 for periodic assessment and 80 for the term examination.

Library & Reading Room

All pupils and teachers are members of the library. Teachers guide pupils to choose the right reading and to cultivate the reading habit.

School buses ply to and from various places in and around Shoranur town. Apply to the Principal at the time of admission; the fee depends on distance.

Education begins at home. An active PTA, with parent and teacher representatives of all classes, supports the academic and overall development of the school.

Admissions

Joining the school

  1. Collect the application form from the school office and submit it completed.
  2. Admission test — pupils are assessed according to the norms of the CBSE course.
  3. Admission — selected pupils come with their parent or guardian; the first instalment of fees is paid at this time.

The minimum age rule prescribed in the Kerala Education Rules applies. The school is self-financing and receives no government aid or grant. School uniform is compulsory on all school days, and English is the campus language.
